How to overcome Low Self-esteem:

Low self-esteem is not the same thing as humility. One is considered to have a low self-esteem when they constantly have a low personal reflection of their overall self worth. In this condition, such people are unable to stand for their fundamental human right.

Please read on Your Fundamental Human Rights here.

Similarly, a child with low self-esteem will be afraid to report the evil done towards him or her to the appropriate authorities. For instance, a child with low self-esteem may be scared to report another student who bullies him or her; for fear of being beaten by the so-called bully. This is so because the bully may had initially threatened the child about the consequences of reporting his crimes.

Please read on Reputation and how to Build a Good Reputation here.

Our words and actions are important factors that can positively or negatively affect the self-esteem of others. To this end, we must be very careful with the words we say, especially towards children and teenagers.

Please read on the Concept of SELF-ESTEEM here.

Note: People may use very bad and degrading words on others; and such can be potentially dangerous to overall self-esteem on the recipient of such evil words. In fact, I've read stories on people who committed suicide because of the evil words that was said at them.

Please read on the Meaning and Characteristics of Low Self-esteem here.

Although bad and negative words can be very hurtful when used on us, we must not always dwell within them, else, they may bring down our self-esteem. Interestingly, these "bad" and "negative" words should be the reasons and catalysts why we must work hard in order achieve our dreams. Always understand that each person is simply unique including you reading this article.

Please read on the Meaning and Objectives of Social Studies here.

Below are some steps to follow in order to overcome Low Self-esteem:

  1. Identify the factors that resulted into the low self esteem. It could be that a child is being bullied in school or it may be an aftermath of a relationship breakup. It may also result from the various causes of low self-esteem.
Please read on the Causes of Low Self-esteem here.
  2. Accept the things you cannot change about yourself. Work towards changing the things you can. In addition, always love yourself for who you are.
You can read on the Leadership Qualities of Joseph that has transformed Lives here.
  3. Never compare your progress to other people’s progress. Always remember that your finger print is unique to you.
  4. Begin to make some positive efforts towards your dream. It is never too late.
Please read on your Responsibilities, Duties and Obligations as a Citizen here.
  5. When people throw bricks at you (in the form of insults and negative words); never be discouraged by such words, instead use the bricks as a source of motivation towards building your glorious destiny.
  6. Read positive books and motivational quotes.
Please read on various Motivational and Inspirational Quotes here.
  7. Remain calm when you don’t achieve perfection. Remember you are human and perfection is actually an unrealistic goal.
Please read on the Consequences of Adam and Eve's Disobedience here.
  8. If the low esteem resulted from your act of making mistakes, just remember that everyone makes mistake. Your mistakes are your best teacher; so learn from it and don’t be left discouraged by it.
  9. Failure is not when you don’t achieve your goals. Failure is when you stop working in order to achieve your goals.
Please read on the importance of Cooperation towards achieving Success here.
  10. Begin to choose your friends and stay away from negative friends.
  11. Learn to encourage yourself. Look up to a positive role model if possible.
Please read the story of the Prodigal Son who encouraged Himself here.
  12. Learn to appreciate every success you make no matter how small it is.
  13. Don’t just believe in yourself. Work towards the belief you have in yourself. The simple truth is; no one can stop you except yourself.

Note: We must always strive to have a healthy self-esteem because people may look up to us as their role model. Always remember that role models can positively or negatively impact the lives of others.

Please read on Values in Civic Education here.

We must accept ourselves for who we are. In addition, we should work hard to positively change what we can about ourselves. When we become successful through the realization of our dreams, those who may have used "negative words" to describe us in the past will end up as part of those to eventually broadcast our praise.
