The word 'contemporary' means happenings or occurrences at the present or current time. With regards to this topic, contemporary social problems will refer to the various issues or challenges that are currently happening within a society; and at the same time, adversely affecting a large number of people living in that society.

The factors attributing to these rampant social problems in Nigeria (as at December 23, 2022) range from the evolution of internet, lack of education, poor infrastructural facilities, urbanization, cultural differences, tribalism and nepotism, insecurity, historical records and most importantly, corruption.
Now, using the evolution of internet (from the above paragraph) as in instance; some young Nigerians are involved in a variety of cybercrimes. Therefore, whenever a person is termed as 'yahoo boy' in Nigeria, it simply implies that he is involved in cybercrimes.

Generally, the various contemporary social issues have made life unsafe, difficult and frustrating to most Nigerians living in Nigeria. Perhaps, this may be the reason why Nigerians are leaving in droves to other countries for greener pastures and better life experiences.
