The hair is defined as a mass of fine thread-like strands growing from the skin of humans especially on the head. It could be black, brown, blonde, grey or ash in colour.
Each hair grows from a narrow tube in the skin called hair follicle. Each follicle has a tiny sebaceous gland near its base which produces oil that lubricates the hair, while also softening the skin around it.
Please read the introduction to home economics and areas covered in home economics.
Below is a diagram showing the structure of the hair.

We have different types of hair on our scalp. These are:
Dry Hair: This is dry, dull and unattractive. It can result from insufficient production of oil by the sebaceous glands, poor diet, or illness. It could lead to damage of the hair.
Oily or Greasy Hair: This occur when the oil glands produces more oil than is needed.
Soft Hair: This type of hair is often light. It is easily blown by the air.
Tough or Coarse Hair: This is a thick hair. It may be difficult to comb or manage.
Long Hair: This is a hair that usually elongates to the shoulder or even longer. It varies from culture to culture. It is kept tidy by plaiting and packing. It results from heredity, good diet, and proper care of the hair.
Short Hair: This refers to any hair with little or short length. It can be kept neat and tidy by combing and brushing.
