The edge router of an organization resides on the boundary or border of the organization's network. This implies that an edge router is the last router that connects a company to the internet. For this reason, it may also be referred to as a gateway router.
An edge router is a specialized router residing at the edge of a network. This router ensures the connectivity of an organization's internal network or Local Area Network (LAN) with one or more external networks such as a Wide Area Network (WAN) or the internet at large.
The image below shows an edge router connecting the internal network (LAN) of an organization to two service providers via the ethernet and T1 lines respectively:
Understand that the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is an important routing protocol that connects the edge router to various networks outside the organization (or autonomous systems) through its appropriate configuration. Other transport mechanisms like multiprotocol label switching (MPLS), satellite, broadband and 5G can also connect an edge router to networks outside the enterprise.
Edge routers may also be referred to as edge platforms, and these can come in different forms or types. These are:
Aggregation Edge Platforms: As the name implies, aggregation edge platforms connect various locations of the enterprise, acting as a central connection points for distributed wide area network traffic. From here, the enterprise's traffic from different regions or locations are sent to the organization's external network, including the internet.

Some of the computers (nodes) will request information from the server. The computers that functions to request information from the server are known as clients.
The internet and the world wide web (www) isn't the same thing.
The internet is formed from the joining or linking of different networks.
For instance, Google's network, Facebook's network and Yahoo's network are among the many other networks that make up the internet.
World Wide Web on the other hand is a collection of linked pages (for instance, this page you're on).
There are actually billions of linked pages in various servers around the world.
You require the internet and a web browser to get to access the World Wide Web
Types of Networks based on geographical size
Personal Area Network (PAN): An instance is a Bluetooth connection between two devices.
